Asterisk Talley (-11), a 16 year-old from California and 2024 champion of the nearby Sage Valley Invitational, finished two strokes behind Escuder. Her first name translates to “little star” in Greek, and she lived up to it on Saturday.

“It’s the best. It’s always going to be the best,” Talley said of her second place finish. “I think I’m going to carry this with me throughout the whole year and throughout my whole career. I’m just going to wear that on my sleeve and just take it with me.”

Defending champion Lottie Woad (-9) of England, a junior at Florida State University, shot 72 to finish three shots back.

“I think you learn every time you’re in contention,” Woad said. “It’s just putting yourself in those positions really. You can’t win every time. I can be pretty happy with how I played this week. Like the goal coming into it was just to be in contention. So got that, and yeah, it was a pretty good defense in the end.”

Behind Woad on the leaderboard to begin the day were nine players within five shots of the lead, including first round leader Megha Ganne, a junior from Stanford University making her fifth appearance in the tournament, who finished -7, five shots back.

“Today was a lot of fun,” Ganne said. “It went by super quick. I thought I played great golf, just couldn’t buy a putt to go in the hole. But put myself in all the spots I needed to be. I made the turn in a good position and I just needed putts to fall and they didn’t. But really proud of my golf game and the direction it’s headed.”
