AI Chatbot ChatGPT reportedly suffered an outage on Monday. Users flooded social media with queries, with one user writing, “chatgpt down for anyone else? #chatgpt #chatgptdown.” And another saying, “@OpenAI ChatGPT 4.0 is down. I don’t know what to do. Help. #chatgpt #openai.” Users reported seeing the message, “upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. reset reason: overflow” on the ChatGPT website.

The outage tracking service DownDetector showed that the problems began around 3:11 PM Eastern Time, with a sharp spike in user reports indicating widespread disruptions.

Some users also reported seeing “Gateway time-out” error message. This error indicates that a server acting as a gateway/proxy is not receiving a timely response from another server it was accessing. In this situation, it suggests that OpenAI’s servers are either overloaded, experiencing technical issues, or are temporarily unavailable.

OpenAI, ChatGPT’s creator, has not addressed the March 17 outage. No official statement has been issued from the company so far.

This is a developing story.
