Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson filed for divorce from husband Kevin Jay Anik after three years of marriage.
Brunson, 35, filed a petition on Wednesday, March 19, according to court documents obtained by Us Weekly. The actress listed their date of separation as “TBD” and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. Brunson noted that the pair “entered into a postnuptial agreement which governs the disposition of their property” and requested each party be responsible for their own attorney’s fees.
The former couple got married in October 2021 but Brunson has remained largely tight-lipped about the relationship. Brunson revealed in her 2022 memoir, She Memes Well, that she and Anik began dating after meeting at a friend’s birthday party.
“To be 100 percent fully me requires a lot of stuff that a lot of men do not have time for,” Bruson said during a November 2022 interview while noting that she “realized there’s no dimming me” after unsuccessful past relationships.
Quinta Brunson thrives in the spotlight and credited much of her success to husband Kevin Jay Anik before their 2025 divorce. “To be 100% fully me requires a lot of stuff that a lot of men do not have time for,” Bruson said during a November 2022 interview, noting that some past partners tried to […]
Bruson praised Anik for being her biggest fan, adding, “My husband, that’s what I mean by him being the biggest support, that there is no need to dim me at all. That allows me to love him fully and be the person that I want to be, and am meant to be.”
After winning an award at the 2022 Emmys, Brunson confirmed their marriage in her speech.
“In case I am not back up here again, I have to thank my mom, dad, brothers and sisters, my cousins … my wonderful husband because he’s the most supportive man I’ve ever known and my incredible cast and show for helping me to make this show and make the pilot,” she shared at the time.
Brunson mentioned Anik again during her 2023 Golden Globes win, saying, “I didn’t prepare anything because I just didn’t think … Oh god. I love my mom, my dad, my sisters, my brothers, my entire family so much. I love my husband. I’m so happy. I love my cast. Oh, I love Abbott Elementary. Thank you so much.”
The Abbott Elementary cast’s respective dating lives appear to be much tamer compared to their fictional counterparts. Following its 2021 debut, the ABC series became a critically-acclaimed hit because of its meaningful story lines about teachers in a Philadelphia public school. Fans were also quick to pick up on the obvious chemistry between Quinta Brunson‘s […]
Before their breakup, Brunson opened up about having Anik by her side while her ABC series found success.
“I mean, a partner during all of this, you can’t buy that kind of support,” she told Entertainment Tonight in 2023. “Someone willing to go through what it takes to make Abbott and be a part of Abbott, it’s priceless. I don’t know what to say. I’m so grateful.”
She quipped: “I feel like I should have did the thank you up there, but I don’t know, I was overwhelmed y’all!”
