PGA: No fans allowed inside Quail Hollow for opening practice round

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – No fans will be allowed inside Charlotte’s Quail Hollow Club for Monday’s PGA Championship practice round, the PGA announced.

The PGA said the decision was made due to inclement weather, and that fans with a Monday Championship+ ticket will have the option to attend on either Tuesday or Wednesday, using Monday’s ticket.

WBTV meteorologists have been tracking the early-week system for days, calling for rain and potential for some strong storms. Rain started Sunday night and stretched into Monday, with precipitation likely to last most of the day, along with gusty winds.

The wet weather is expected to then last into Tuesday as well.

There is a chance that combined rainfall totals from Sunday through Tuesday could reach four inches in the Charlotte area, with up to six inches possible in other parts of North Carolina.

The PGA Championship is one of golf’s four annual major tournaments, alongside The Masters, the U.S. Open and the Open Championship. This week’s tournament in Charlotte is the second major of the year. During the first, Rory McIlroy completed the career Grand Slam with his dramatic win at The Masters.

McIlroy won the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow, which was the PGA’s last trip to the Charlotte course.

The 2025 PGA Championship will be played at Quail Hollow Club May 15-18.(WBTV)
