Sony is officially rolling out a brand-new system software update for the PlayStation 5, bringing the console to version 25.02-11.00.00 with some fresh improvements and changes. While most PlayStation 5 users can download the latest update right now, Sony has stated that the patch is being rolled out gradually, which means not all users will have the update available immediately.
Most new PlayStation 5 updates often consist of nothing more than “stability improvements,” but the latest patch brings a handful of new improvements. Back in February, Sony announced that it would be rolling out a beta version of a new PlayStation 5 update. The update included adjustments to the console’s activities feature, as well as support for Unicode 16.0 emojis and other various quality-of-life improvements. Now, over one month later, that very same update is receiving a full release with most users now able to download and install the latest software version directly on their console.

According to a new post on the official Ask PlayStation Twitter account, Sony is currently rolling out a new PlayStation 5 update. Version 25.02-11.00.00 is in a phased release, but users who have yet to receive the update on their console can download the firmware directly from PlayStation’s website. According to the official patch notes, which can be found further down this article, the update makes it simpler to view details about activities on the console, with activity details now fully displayed on cards. Sony has also made some minor adjustments to parental controls restrictions, added support for Unicode 16.0 emojis, improved system performance and stability, and more.
Unfortunately, the latest update still hasn’t brought back Sony’s 30th anniversary themes for the PlayStation 5. After introducing the new feature back in December for the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation 1, fans quickly made it clear that they wanted these classic themes to be available forever. While Sony did eventually remove the feature, it promised to bring the themes back in a future update. There’s still no word on when they will return, but the studio also made it clear that it has no plans for any other type of themes outside of the 30th anniversary ones.
After over four years on the market, the PlayStation 5 recently surpassed the PlayStation 4 in terms of sales. According to analyst Mat Piscatella, Sony’s newest console is now outpacing its predecessor by 7% in terms of sales, but the same sadly can’t be said for Xbox. The industry analyst claims that the Xbox Series X/S is trailing behind the Xbox One by a massive 19%.
