Florida State’s wide receiver depth for 2025 took a hit on Thursday morning with former 5-star recruit Hykeem Williams deciding to enter the spring transfer portal.
Williams’ decision was reported by Noles247. The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder who grew up in Fort Lauderdale and stayed in state to play at Florida State is now apparently headed elsewhere to play in 2025. He spent 2 seasons in Tallahassee, during which he appeared in 17 games for the Seminoles and caught 21 passes for 267 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Williams was a big-time prize for head coach Mike Norvell out of the 2023 class. He is 1 of only 2 5-star recruits of Norvell’s tenure, which includes 6 recruiting classes. But Williams was injury-prone during his 2 seasons under Norvell, and he will have 2 years of eligibility left starting this fall.
He made 8 starts last season for FSU, finishing with 16 receptions for 187 yards and 1 score. He had a career day against Clemson, catching 4 passes for 53 yards. In 9 overall appearances, Williams was FSU’s third-leading wide receiver.
Williams was also the only 247Sports Composite 5-star recruit during Norvell’s time in Tallahassee, with cornerback Demorie Tate being rated a 5-star recruit by 247Sports but not a Composite 5-star player.
Ironically, Williams almost ended up in Gainesville and not Tallahassee when he was originally recruited. Florida made an offer to Williams in January of 2021, and Williams showed real interest, making 2 unofficial visits in March and April of 2022.
But ultimately, Williams decided to take his immense talents to FSU. Now, after an unsuccessful 2-year stint, he’s reportedly taking his talents elsewhere.
