Yankees Announce Injury News and Roster Moves Before 2025 Opener

The Yankees made a flurry of roster moves Wednesday night, moving eight players to the injured list, including Giancarlo Stanton, as expected. They also made a final bullpen decision before Thursday’s Opening Day matchup in the Bronx against the Milwaukee Brewers, announcing that right-hander Yerry De Los Santos has been optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

That means that Yoendrys Gómez and Brent Headrick take the final two spots in the Yankees’ eight-man bullpen.

Gómez, 25, appeared in seven games for the Yankees last season and continued to flash potential this spring. The right-hander has developed steadily through the system and now earns a real shot at sticking in the big leagues.

Headrick, a left-hander claimed off waivers from the Twins in February, impressed with his command and versatility.

The Yankees will also carry closer Devin Williams, Luke Weaver, Ryan Yarbrough, Fernando Cruz, Tim Hill, Mark Leiter Jr., Yoendrys Gómez, and Brent Headrick in the bullpen for Thursday’s opener against the Brewers.

It’s a revamped group that was pieced together because of injuries. Yarborough was a last-minute acquisition after he opted out of a minor league deal with the Blue Jays this spring.

Jake Cousins, Clayton Beeter, Jonathan Loaisiga, Ian Hill and Scott Efross were officially moved to the injured list Wednesday night as expected. They were joined there by JT Brubaker, Stanton, DJ LeMahieu, and Clarke Schmidt.

De Los Santos, who had a strong camp, was simply a victim of the numbers game. With options remaining, he’ll open the season in Scranton and will likely be among the first names called when the Yankees need reinforcements.
