Since taking over as the Royals manager, Matt Quatraro has never been one to look back.
When the Royals got off to a strong start a year ago, he dismissed any comparisons to the team that had lost 106 games in 2023. And although the Royals made the postseason last season, Quatraro said that has no bearing on the 2025 season.
“You can’t rest on your individual accomplishments or anything the team did in the past, right?” Quatraro said last month. “Because nobody’s going to care when we open up the season what we did last year, right? It’s going to be about what can we do now, and how can we keep getting better?
“These guys understand that when you go out there every night, competing against the best players in the world, you can’t just assume I got this. Somebody’s trying to beat you, and they’re the best players on the other side too.”
Quatraro’s words will come into sharp focus Thursday when the Royals open the 2025 season. The defending American League Central champion Cleveland Guardians will be at Kauffman Stadium for a three-game series.
Here is how fans can watch, stream and listen to the games.
