A first Wimbledon title for Iga Swiatek. And what a way to do it. She becomes the first Polish woman to win a singles title in Wimbledon. 6-0, 6-0 and she has etched her name alongside Steffi Graf in the history books. Her first title since the French Open in 2024.
For the second time in Open Era history and the first time since 1911 in Wimbledon, a double bagel victory (6-0, 6-0) has been achieved in a Grand Slam final. The only other occasion was Steffi Graf beating Natasha Zvereva in the 1988 French Open final.
The Open Era began in 1968, which goes to show how rare a feat this is.
Amanda Anisimova had a tournament to remember up to this point. She even ousted World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the semis, and would’ve been confident of a win in her first Grand Slam final. But Iga Swiatek has shown her class and overpowered her completely today. Commiserations to Anisimova — she was the crowd favourite today — and we hope she has more finals to come.
