BOSTON — It didn’t take long for the Red Sox to break out their new home run celebration.
Fans got to see it right away in the first inning of the home opener Friday when Trevor Story and Wilyer Abreu hit back-to-back home runs against Cardinals righty Erick Fedde.
Story and Abreu wore a Wally the Green Monster head to celebrate with their teammates in the dugout.
The Red Sox tweeted, “Thanks to Jarren for commissioning the home run Wally head!” The tweet includes a video of Wally presenting Jarren Duran with it.
“This is insane,” Duran said, smiling.
Duran then tried it on and added, “They’re going to freak out when everybody puts this on, yeah?‘”

Story’s three-run homer went 364 feet with a 99.9 mph exit velocity over the Green Monster. It put Boston ahead 4-0.
Abreu made it 5-0 when he pulled a 392-foot homer to right field. It left his bat at 110.1 mph.
Duran singled to lead off the first. Rafael Devers then walked and Alex Bregman ripped an RBI double to make it 1-0.
