Hurricanes @ Red Wings – Preview and Game Thread

The Carolina Hurricanes (46-24-4) visit Detroit (34-33-7) to take on the Red Wings tonight at 7 P.M. Eastern. The game will be televised locally by the FanDuel Sports Network.

The Canes are coming off a huge, 5-1 win against the Washington Capitals on Wednesday night which guaranteed them a seventh consecutive playoff spot. I would expect emotions to return to normal tonight.

Pyotr Kochetkov should be back in net. The lineup should be the same as it was against the Caps as both Andrei Svechnikov and Jordan Staal are nursing injuries.

There has been a lot of attention given to Carolina’s response to Washington’s goonery Wednesday night. Reasonable people will agree that if a team is thrashing the other team, 5-1, they have no reason to escalate things on the ice, except to respond to what is being done to them.

It is also noteworthy that the Canes are among the lowest penalized teams (regarding majors) in the NHL.

To get back to this game, the Wings are still fighting for a wild card spot. Carolina will be hoping to escape this game without any injuries.

Speaking of injuries, rookie, Justin Robidas has been recalled from Chicago. Robidas has 48 points in 65 games played there.

A former 5th round pick, the forward will look to make a contribution tonight, though I’m not sure where he will fit in.

The lines should look something like this:

Jarvis – Aho – Blake

Hall – Roslovic – Svechnikov

Martinook – Kotkaniemi – Stankoven

Robinson – Jankowski – Jost

Slavin – Burns

Orlov – Chatfield

Gostisbehere – Walker

Kochetkov
