Future Hall of Fame WR who played with Eagles announces retirement after 13 seasons

Former NFL wide receiver Julio Jones, who played a season with the Eagles, has decided to end his career.

Jones, selected sixth overall by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2011 draft, announced his retirement Friday.

During his 13 seasons in the NFL, Jones—who was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 2010s All-Decade Team—recorded 914 receptions for 13,703 yards and 66 touchdowns. A two-time All-Pro and seven-time Pro Bowler, Jones helped the Falcons reach Super Bowl LI. He spent the first 10 years of his career in Atlanta before being traded to the Tennessee Titans in 2021.

Jones played one season with the Titans before joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2022. He later signed with the Eagles as a practice squad player in 2023. He played in 11 regular-season games for Philadelphia, finishing with 11 receptions for 74 yards and three touchdowns.

“I just contribute wherever I’m needed and take advantage of those opportunities,” Jones told NJ Advance Media on January 2024. “At the end of the day, it takes all 11. I didn’t just do it by myself. The O-line does a great job, and Jalen gives me opportunities, and we all are looking to take advantage of them.”

Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown, who played with Jones for a season in Tennessee, reacted to his retirement announcement on social media.

“The best WR to play the game in my book,” Brown said. “Taught me how to play the position before we even met. Not every day you get to play with the person that inspired you to play the game. Grateful! You deserve it family . Congrats unc.”

Brown ended the message with a goat emoji.
