Did you feel that? 3.0 earthquake hits Hasbrouck Heights, felt all over North Jersey

An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.0 hit Bergen County on the evening of Aug. 2, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The epicenter, according to the government agency, was Hasbrouck Heights and occurred at 10:18 p.m. The quake was felt all over the Metro New York area.

“Emergency Management is tracking reports of an Earthquake in the Hasbrouck Heights area. The same has been confirmed by the USGS. No reports of serious damage have been reported at this time. Please do not call the Police Department unless you have an emergency,” the Hasbrouck Heights municipal government posted on Facebook.

Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco posted: “We are aware of the earthquake that occurred in Hasbrouck Heights. We are currently surveying for damage. There has been no report of damage at this time.”

“Please do not be alarmed,” the Bergen County Sherriff’s Department posted.

“My house just shook,” one person posted in a North Haledon group

“Anyone feel that earthquake,” another user posted in Route 23 life.

“Wow it woke me up,” a person posted in the Oradell residents group.

Earthquakes that fall in the range of 1.4 and 3.9 magnitude are light in USGS’s perceived shaking scale with the risk of potential damage being “none.”

Saturday night’s earthquake still pales in comparison to a 4.8 magnitude earthquake in April 2024 that quite literally shook everybody up from New Jersey to New York, Washington D.C., Boston and the surrounding areas.
