Viral video after FSU shooting seems to show person sipping coffee while passing wounded victim

People on social media are outraged over a video reportedly taken at the scene of a fatal mass shooting at Florida State University in Tallahassee, on Thursday, April 17. But it’s not just over the alleged shooter, identified by Tallahassee police as 20-year-old FSU student Phoenix Ikner.

It’s over video that was seemingly shot by someone walking past a wounded, bleeding woman lying face down on the grass. Rather than stopping to help or even running away from an active shooter, as what sounds like two shots are fired in the background, the person walks by while sipping from a Starbucks cup.

The shooting left two people dead and six injured, although one of the six was not shot, police said. The wounded person in the video, if it is legitimate, was likely one of the people who survived.

While officials believe the video is authentic, the Tallahassee Democrat is not running the video due to its graphic content and because it has not been verified as real or related to the FSU shooting. But people online are not holding back.

What are people saying about the FSU coffee-sipping video?

“So I’m going through the FSU shooting news and there’s a video of some a–hole walking right past a girl that’s been shot. Just drinking a Starbucks and just keeps going,” an X user named Kron posted. “I wanna know who that is. Cause that’s a psychopath.”

“Mass shooting at Florida State University!” posted Emil Vicale. “Many wounded and likely dead. And this guy is filming while drinking his Chill Moka Latte.”

“The girl taking a video of a shooting victim while nonchalantly drinking her Starbucks coffee is exactly what’s wrong with the world today,” posted user BAM.

“Ok so if I got this straight.. the observer filming is filming during an active shooting, hence the pop pop. Then he films the lady shot on the ground all while drinking a Starbucks? Is that how it went down? Wow. That’s a lot of wow,” posted X user Blysse.

“The amount of vile you have to be as a human to record this while causally drinking coffee is a new level of evil I thought I’d never see,” posted X user Jared, “and no, I don’t care if the person filming is in shock. You help, period. Absolutely disgraceful and disgusting to film.”

What happened at FSU?

Police say Ikner, the son of a veteran Leon County deputy, opened fire with his mother’s old service weapon near the student union Thursday afternoon. Two people, neither of them students, were killed, and six more were injured.

Law enforcement from multiple agencies responded quickly. Tallahassee police and FSU campus security confronted Ikner, who was shot after he refused to comply with orders. Officials have not said who fired.
