House Democrat calls to impeach Trump for defying Supreme Court

WASHINGTON (TNND) — Rep. Shri Thanedar, D-Mich., on Wednesday called to impeach President Donald Trump over his administration’s failure to adhere to the Supreme Court.

The high court ruled last week the Trump administration must return Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, who was deported to El Salvador from Maryland. Despite this ruling, the Supreme Court has no enforcement power, meaning the Trump administration can choose to ignore that demand.

U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg ruled Wednesday the court had probable cause to hold the Trump administration in criminal contempt for overstepping the ruling. While he could refer the case for prosecution, the decision to do so would ultimately lie with the Department of Justice.

Rep. Thanedar said Trump’s resistance to the Supreme Court’s decision is grounds for impeachment.

“I’ve seen enough,” he wrote via X. “Donald Trump is not abiding by a lawful Supreme Court ruling. As a member of Congress, I fully support impeaching him. NOW.”

Trump was notably subject to two impeachments during his first term in office, making him the only federal official in history with such a record. He was acquitted by the Senate in both cases, meaning he was never disqualified from office.

The president last month also made impeachment demands of his own directed at Boasberg.

“HE DIDN’T WIN ANYTHING!” Trump wrote via Truth Social. “This judge, like many of the Crooked Judges’ I am forced to appear before, should be IMPEACHED!!!
