ForbesNYT ‘Connections’ Hints And Answers For Saturday, April 19By Kris HoltHey there, Connectors! I hope you’re having a ridiculously great weekend. Just the very best time.
I’ve mentioned a few times that I’ve considered making video versions of my Connections solves (and still might!), but one of the main things that’s been holding me back is concern about AI companies scraping videos of my voice to help train their models. That’s one of the reasons why I’ve thus far decided against livestreaming on Twitch or YouTube. While the idea of it is compelling and I would like to try it, livestreaming does make me a little anxious.
However, I’ve been thinking about ways to do that while remaining somewhat anonymous. I could livestream using only my voice (hey, I do have a nice new microphone that I should get more use out of) with no webcam feed or have an animated visual representation of me.
I actually have an idea of how to go about the latter with what I think is a fun gimmick. Without giving that away, it’s something I previously considered doing with a greenscreen setup, but the animated approach as a so-called V-tuber might make more sense.
It could be fun, but for now, I’ll be adding it to my never-ending list of things I’d like to someday do with my time. And if I do go for it, you won’t find me promoting it here. That would defeat the point of anonymizing my voice!
Before we begin, I’ve set up a discussion group for NYT Connections and this column on Discord. We have a great little community over there and we chat about more than NYT games. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot.
It’s also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare(!) occasions that I mess something up since I don’t look at the comments or Twitter much.
Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Sunday, April 20, are coming right up.
How To Play Connections
Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT website or Games app.
You’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.
There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.
Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.
Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.
If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.
If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication’s Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed.
Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my hints via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query.

Got a perfect game to bring me up to 54 straight wins. Swell! Here’s how I fared:
🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟦🟦🟦🟦 🟪🟪🟪🟪
🟩🟩🟩🟩
I’d love to get a reverse rainbow every day, or at least the purples first every time. But I feel like it’s more useful to keep embracing my inner chaos goblin and just solving the puzzle as things come to me while detailing my thought process.
So, when the yellows jumped out at me right away here, I didn’t hesitate to submit them. GANDER and LOOK made those pretty clear.
Gazing elsewhere, EGG and BUNNY are timely inclusions since it’s Easter Sunday (hope all of you who are celebrating enjoy the occasion!). But as I saw EGG and JOKE next to each other, the blues jumped out.
The same thing happened next with HIP and BAR. BUNNY evidently went with those, but I didn’t know what else might fit. At that point, I had a feeling that DYE, BASIN and SHIRT would go together.
“RUBBER BANDS hop” didn’t make any sense grammatically, so I went with SOCK to get the purples. A SOCK hop, according to Wikipedia, was a type of dance event that became popular among American teenagers in the 1940s. These were often held in high school gyms and, to protect the varnished floors, the youngsters would remove hard-soled shoes and bop in their socks. I just learned something new… or old.
That left the greens for the win. I had no idea RUBBER BANDS were involved in the tie-dye process, but it makes sense considering the name!
That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Monday’s game if you need them.
P.S. As promised yesterday, I have one more metal song for you today, and it’s a very exciting one for me. I’m a big fan of Poppy (and had an absolute blast seeing her live for the first time a few weeks ago). So when this new collaboration between her and Babymetal popped up in my YouTube recommendations, I was surprised and delighted.
Babymetal are fantastic. They’re a mashup of a Japanese idol group and heavy metal band who have been around for 15 years, and somehow the three members (two of whom are original members) are all in their 20s. Babymetal mash together loud crunching guitars and drums with poppy vocals and, yes, some screaming.
So yes, I’ve been listening to “from me to u” over the last week or so. Great riffs, strong double-kick drumming, catchy melody, a big chorus, choreographed dancing, quality screaming from Poppy… what more could I want? I’m really looking forward to seeing Babymetal in a couple of months:
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love!
