Keith Thurman stops Brock Jarvis in three, says he’s willing to make Tim Tszyu fight again

Keith Thurman brutally stopped Brock Jarvis in the third round early this morning (American time) in his bout taking place in Sydney, Australia, shaking off the rust from his three year hiatus out of the ring.

Thurman would impose himself early and struck Jarvis with at least one hard shot that stopped the aggressive Jarvis dead in his tracks, and although Jarvis would make an attempt to swarm and bully Thurman in response, Thurman ultimately unloaded a combination in the third — punctuated by a nasty left uppercut — that put Jarvis down hard.

Jarvis just barely beat the could in that instance but the fight ended up being stopped by the referee shortly thereafter when Thurman caught Jarvis with a left hook that put Jarvis down hard once again. While the 36-year-old Thurman was clearly the older man against his 27-year-old opponent, the difference in class proved to be fairly obvious.

“I’ve had a lot of fights, a lot of contracts, a lot of camps that just kept falling out for whatever reason, push backs, politics, man” Thurman would say in the post-fight interview. “But my love for the sport is still here and that’s why I did what I did today, baby.”

Thurman was then asked about his experience fighting in Australia and whether or not he was looking forward to re-staging a fight against Tim Tszyu, who he was supposed to fight early last year until he was forced to withdraw due to injury.

“I just raised the bar on you, Tszyu. This three years of inactivity, you see what I do, you want to come back you got to come back hard, baby. Represent Australia, show them what you got…if that contract manifests you know what Keith Thurman do, send the contract, I’ll sign it, I’ll be happy to make the fight happen.”
