Badger legend hopes that John Tonje breaks his scoring record for Wisconsin

There’s no doubt that John Tonje has been incredible for the Wisconsin Badgers this season, but he may have had his best game as a Badger against the UCLA Bruins in the third round of the Big Ten Tournament. He almost shot a perfect game only missing one field goal and one free throw. He was a perfect 6 for 6 from behind the arch. That game moved Tonje into the third spot in the Badgers’ record books for single-season scoring with 625.

The man at the top is none other than Badger great Frank Kaminsky with 732. Kaminsky has already decided he wants Tonje to break it because that “Would mean great things for the program.”

Hope he breaks it. Would mean great things for the program https://t.co/EJwIgCRzV8

Frank Kaminsky sends John Tonje a message about his scoring record, hoping he breaks it

The standings for the single-season scoring records right now are Frank Kaminsky at 732, Alando Tucker at 716, and then John Tonje at 625. That means that Tonje is 107 points away from the record and as Kaminsky said, would mean some incredible things going forward for the Badgers.

Kaminsky did some quick math and realized that if Tonje goes for 20 each game, he would need six more games to break his record. That means Wisconsin would need six more games. They are currently only guaranteed two more games with today’s game against Michigan State and a first round game in the NCAA Tournament. If they can somehow win the Big Ten Tournament, that means there are still four more games in the NCAA Tournament for the Badgers, according to this math, we need to break Kaminsky’s record. If this were to happen, the Badgers make it to the Elite 8.

However, if they were somehow to lose in the game against Michigan State, that would give them five more NCAA tournament games, giving them a Final Four. Therefore, Kaminsky is right. For Tonje to break his record, big things would have to happen for the program, which is why he wants Tonje to do it.
