WALTHALL COUNTY, Miss. (WLBT) – Three people are dead following Saturday’s violent storms in Walthall County.
According to Walthall County Emergency Management Director Royce McKee, the fatalities occurred near Darbun, along Bethlehem Loop Road.
The ages, genders, and names of the individuals have not been released.
Sheriff Kyle Breland said there are also multiple injuries, numerous destroyed homes, and trees blocking roadways. In some cases, houses collapsed, and first responders had to dig out victims from under the debris.
Paradise Ranch campground in Walthall County also experienced significant damage, with snapped trees and overturned RVs.
Bailey Dillon and Caleb Barnes were on their porch when they watched the tornado come through.
“It started going toward us, and it veered off and went to Paradise Ranch,” Dillon said. “It was very eerie to watch something like that.”
The two drove through the RV park afterward to survey the damage, where they noticed multiple overturned RVs and damaged trees.
Said Dillon, “It looks like Paradise Ranch was totally demolished. There were a lot of fire trucks, ambulances.”
Barnes, meanwhile, says he knows several people who have lost homes as a result of Saturday’s storms and wouldn’t be surprised if fatalities went up.
“We have extensive damage throughout the county. I know people who lost their homes. Schools have been demolished. It’s bad,” he said.
