Nurgozhay, who was making his debut Saturday night after a solid showing on the Contender Series, came in five pounds overweight on Friday. Fight fans were not happy to see the Octagon newcomer fail to make weight. After giving up 25% of his fight purse to Ribeiro, Nurgozhay had to catch a ton of flack from social media’s finest calling for his release.

Ribeiro, who was coming off a split-decision win over Caio Machado his last time out, was hoping to do the bidding for fight fans wanting justice for Nurgozhay’s weight miss. The Brazilian finisher did just that, eventually catching Nurgozhay in an impressive kimura attempt early in the second round. Nurgozhay didn’t have much room to move since the two light heavyweights were positioned along the cage. Ribeiro eventually forced the tap and capped off a big upset win.
