Aggies Drop Middle Game at No. 1 Texas – Texas A&M Athletics

AUSTIN – Despite a strong performance from Justin Lamkin, the Texas A&M baseball team fell to No. 1 Texas, 3-2, in the Cotton Holdings Lone Star Showdown Saturday afternoon at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Aggies (24-18, 8-12) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first as Terrence Kiel II, who led off the game with a double, came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Wyatt Henseler.

The Longhorns (36-5, 18-2) evened the score with a solo homer to left center in the third and later took the lead in the sixth courtesy of a fielding error by the Maroon & White. Texas stretched its advantage to 3-1 in the seventh with an RBI double to left center.

The Aggies threatened in the eighth as the first two batters reached safely in the frame but a flyout followed by back-to-back strikeouts ended the frame. In the ninth, back-to-back walks to open the inning brought the go-ahead run to the dish with no outs for Texas A&M. Despite pushing across a run on a Hayden Schott RBI groundout, the Maroon & White were unable to even the score as they fell 3-2.

Starter Justin Lamkin (3-5) was handed the loss despite allowing only two runs, one earned, over 5 1/3 innings of work. The left-hander also struck out eight on the day.
