Arne Slot will neither be the “loudest” nor “weirdest” during the celebrations if Liverpool win the Premier League on Sunday. The Reds welcome Tottenham to Anfield requiring a single point to secure the title and start the party in the Dutchman’s first season in charge.
The Liverpool head coach has experience of winning league trophies, lifting the 2022-23 Eredivisie title with Feyenoord. Should Liverpool draw or win against Spurs, Slot will share in the merriment alongside his wife and children, plus some of the 46-year-old’s friends who are visiting Merseyside during a Dutch holiday.
Mohamed Salah: a bridge between worlds in Liverpool
“I enjoyed it a lot when Feyenoord won the title – but I don’t go crazy,” Slot said. “It wasn’t like I ran three times around the stadium. I was just very, very happy inside and I shared my emotions with the people around me and the fans. But I will never be the one who is the loudest nor the weirdest in the moment. I’m not like that.”
Liverpool are 12 points clear of nearest rivals Arsenal and becoming champions with four games to spare would be evidence of their domination this seasonand a fine achievement for Slot. The Dutchman has been at the club for less than a year and is working outside the Netherlands for the first time.
“It is for other people to judge,” Slot said of his potential achievement. “It would be a bit weird to judge myself, but I can judge the performance for my staff and the medical staff – and they should get a lot of credit over the course of the season.”
The last time Liverpool clinched the title, in June 2020 under Jürgen Klopp, they did so with fans banned from stadiums after the Covid-19 pandemic had shut down the season that March. The German’s successor has settled quickly and can emulate the feat before a packed stadium on Sunday.

“If you start to work here, then quite quickly you get a certain feeling,” Slot said. “I feel part of it. But to say I am a scouser now would be too much. The good thing about the people here is that they welcome you from the start and you feel part of them. But it would be weird if I said after 10 months that I feel the same as people who have lived here for 30 or 40 years. Ask me after 10 years.”
