Arthur Fils advanced to the semi-finals at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell on Friday after Stefanos Tsitsipas retired in the third game of their quarter-final clash.
Tsitsipas, a four-time finalist in Barcelona, took off-court treatment after just six minutes had been played, and ultimately called the match with Fils leading 2-0. The seventh-seeded Frenchman will face the No. 2 in the PIF ATP Rankings, Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals.

Fils, who is at a career-high No. 13 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings, could make his Top 10 breakthrough if he claims the title in Barcelona. The Frenchman boasts a 17-7 record in 2025, including five quarter-final appearances (Hong Kong, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo, Barcelona).
“I think it’s his back, but I’m not really sure to be honest,” said Fils, who is now 3-0 in his Lexus ATP Head2Head series with Tsitsipas. “I was ready to battle for a few hours, because he is a champion and every time we play, we have tough matches. I wish him the best.”
