Bay Bridge lanes closed for over an hour after vehicle fire

A vehicle towing a mobile sleeper trailer caught fire on the Bay Bridge on Tuesday afternoon, blocking traffic for more than an hour, officials said. 

The flames were seen coming from the vehicle that was halted in the bridge’s middle lane near the Interstate 80 East Treasure Island off-ramp at 1:43 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. 

Four lanes of eastbound traffic were stopped near Treasure Island as a result of the fire while crews worked to extinguish the flames shortly after 2 p.m., CHP spokesperson Mark Andrews said.

The fire was cleared and the lanes were reopened shortly after 3:30 p.m.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was unclear, Andrews said.
