CINCINNATI (WXIX) – A freshman football player for the University of Cincinnati died Tuesday, according to the school.

Jeremiah Kelly, a native of Avon, Ohio, died unexpectedly at his home in the early morning.

“The Bearcats football family is heartbroken by the sudden loss of this outstanding young man,” said football head coach Scott Satterfield. “In the short time Jeremiah has spent with our team, he has made a real impact, both on the field and in our locker room. My prayers are with the Kelly family and those who had the pleasure of knowing Jeremiah.”

Kelly graduated from Avon High School and helped lead their football team to a perfect 16-0 record and a state championship in 2024, UC said.

He earned first-team all-conference and all-district honors and was named the SWC Lineman of the Year as a senior.

Kelly, a three-star offensive lineman recruit, committed to play for Satterfield and the Bearcats on June 21, 2024.

ESPN ranked the 6′3″ 320-pound Kelly as the 45th best recruit in Ohio for the 2025 class.

He enrolled early and practiced with the Bearcats this spring semester.
