BREAKING: North Carolina loses elite guard to portal

North Carolina point guard Elliot Cadeau entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. Cadeau played two seasons for the Tar Heels.

Cadeau increased his stats across the board this past season. He finished with 9.5 points per game, 2.9 rebounds per game, six assists per game, shot 44.8% from the floor and 33.8% from three-point range.

As a member of the Class of 2023, Cadeau was a five-star recruit out of West Orange (N.J.) Link Academy (Mo.), according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 2 overall prospect in Missouri, the No. 2 point guard in the class and the No. 13 overall prospect in the class.

Cadeau has some solid front court play as well, as head coach Hubert Davis described. One example came in January with a game-winning four-point play against Notre Dame.

“I didn’t know that it was an and-one,” Davis admitted postgame. “I was hoping that it went in. But I was prepared to call a timeout to set up our defense and they said don’t call timeout. I was like I’m calling a timeout to set up our defense and they said he’s going to the free-throw line.

“I said who’s going to the free-throw line and they said Elliot. And, so, with the and-one situation, I told them after Elliot made his free throw that we would call timeout to set up our defense and we were able to get a stop at the end.”
