The Washington Capitals are right back in action on Wednesday night with a matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Caps are coming off a 4-3 win in Boston on Tuesday night while the Canes are wrapping up a four-game homestand.

My best bet: Alex Ovechkin anytime goalscorer (+145 at FanDuel)
Alex Ovechkin is now four goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s record after scoring a power-play goal on Tuesday night. He’s scored in two straight games, three of his last four, and five of his last eight contests.
Ovi missed one of the games against Carolina this season but has a three-game goal streak against the stingy Canes. He’ll be firing away, and +145 is a great price.

My analysis
The Washington Capitals are back in action on Wednesday night just 24 hours after a 4-3 win in Boston. Although the Carolina Hurricanes have had a few days off at home, Carolina is simply too big of a favorite in this Metropolitan Division matchup.
The Caps have held their own in the second half of back-to-backs this season (7-4 record), and they’re also 31-10 in games that Logan Thompson starts while the Canes are 12-5 in Frederik Andersen’s starts.
Neither of these two teams has a ton to play for. The Capitals may want to win the Presidents’ Trophy, but they more or less have the top seed in the division locked up with an 11-point lead over Carolina. The Hurricanes have a seven-point lead of their own (with three games in hand to boot) over the Devils for the second spot in the division.
The Capitals opened around +140, which is realistically where this line should be. We’re now getting +184 with no signs of the line movement stopping. The Hurricanes have shown to be vulnerable favorites with a 4-5 record when the line’s between -202 and -232.
