The Cavaliers have owned the recent history with the Spurs, but San Antonio usually finds a way to keep their meetings close, as our expert NBA predictions explain.

The San Antonio Spurs are literally clinging to a thread in the West playoff picture. The Cleveland Cavaliers can all but douse that flickering light when they visit them Friday night.
The Cavaliers, closing in on the formality of locking up the East’s top seed, are massive 14-point favorites in the NBA odds.
With Cleveland eager to stay healthy and whole for the postseason, our Cavaliers vs. Spurs prediction has the Spurs staying somewhat in range for this one.
Read on for my NBA picks for Friday, April 4.
Cavaliers vs Spurs prediction
My best bet: San Antonio Spurs +14 (-110 at bet365)
My analysis
The Cleveland Cavaliers’ real test is finally getting some traction in the playoffs, but that doesn’t mean they can’t continue to work on things down the home stretch with everything basically locked up.
Last game, they pounded the Jalen Brunson-less Knicks 124-105, their fifth win in the last six games, with three of them coming by double digits.
One of those games that was within distance was a 124-116 win over these very San Antonio Spurs, who were competitive though decimated, as stars Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox are done for the season.
It’s hard to believe, but defense did play a factor in this one.
The Cavaliers held San Antonio to just 40.6% shooting for the game, and while the Spurs did make 14 triples, they needed 43 attempts to reach that mark, a below-average 32.6% clip.
Cleveland’s defense doesn’t need to be all-world, but anything above average on a given night will give them a great chance to win.
The Cavaliers are the highest-scoring team in the NBA, averaging 122.4 points per game while shooting a smooth 49.3% from the field and 38.3% from 3-point range, both top-3 marks in the NBA.
San Antonio is coming off a 113-106 win over the Nuggets – though Denver was without star Nikola Jokic – snapping a 5-game losing streak.
Technically, they’re still alive for the West’s final play-in, but they’re down four games with six to play.
They’ll be hard-pressed to do it against the Cavaliers, who are third in the NBA in road wins with a 28-10 mark, while going 24-14-0 against the spread.
Cleveland has owned this matchup, winning seven of the last eight head-to-head meetings, but the Spurs have gone 4-4-0 ATS, and I believe they’ll continue this trend tonight.
Cavaliers vs Spurs same-game parlay
San Antonio Spurs +14Chris Paul Under 7.5 points
Donovan Mitchell Over 2.5 made threes
Maybe it’s been part of the game plan, or maybe it’s just tougher for Chris Paul to handle the Cavaliers’ athletic and shifty backcourt, but he has struggled against Cleveland of late.
In their only matchup this season, Paul shot 2-for-10 from the field and had just five points – the third straight game he’s gone single-digit scoring against the Cavaliers.
Until he breaks that trend, we’ll keep him going low against Cleveland.
Let’s wrap up this three-legger with Donovan Mitchell and his 3-point shooting line for Friday.
The Cavs star had a disastrous March, shooting just 21.4% on over eight three-point attempts per game, but he found the range late, hitting at least three triples in his last four games and at a more efficient 36.3% clip.
One of those games was against the Spurs when he went 4-for-9 from downtown.
