SILETZ, Ore. (KATU) — A child’s body has been recovered in Siletz, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
The discovery comes amid an 11-day search for missing toddler Dane Paulsen who was reported missing on March 1. Sheriff’s officials have not confirmed the identity of the victim.
KATU reporter Shelby Slaughter is covering this story and is on her way to Siletz to learn more details.
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office held a press conference back on March 4, saying they were highlighting the Siletz River for their search efforts.
“So far the evidence available indicates Dane was at the river’s edge before his disappearance. Because of this we will be focusing the majority of our ongoing resources on searching the Siletz River,” said Sergeant Jason Spano with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said in that press conference.
Hundreds of community volunteers helped search. The search consisted of drones equipped with cameras, thermal imaging, tracking canines, watercraft, and human behavior tracking resources.
The search operations also included methodical boat searches over long stretches of the river, with one boat covering approximately 14 miles of the river on Mar. 7.
