In the absence of Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah, Mumbai Indians (MI) have handed a debut to Jharkhand’s Robin Minz and Andhra’s Satyanarayana Raju in their first game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk on March 23 (Sunday).
The 25-year-old right-arm seamer Satyanarayana came into the limelight after an impressive Andhra Premier League (APL) 2024, taking eight wickets in seven games at an economy of 6.15.
Last year, the fast bowler also made his debut for Andhra in all three formats. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25, Satyanarayana took seven wickets in as many games at an economy of 8.23.
Another Indian domestic player making his IPL debut is Minz. The 22-year-old becomes the first-ever tribal cricketer to feature in an IPL game. Minz considers MS Dhoni his idol and gave up on his studies after passing his 10th standard exams.
Minz was picked by Gujarat Titans (GT) for the IPL 2024 but had to miss the tournament after being involved in a bike accident. The left-hander has featured for Jharkhand U19 and Jharkhand U25 teams.
Minz has played seven T20s for Jharkhand but doesn’t have a great record – 67 runs in six innings at an average of 16.75 and a strike rate of 181.08.
South Africa’s wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton is also playing his first IPL game. The left-hander has 263 runs in 13 T20Is at an average of 20.23 and a strike rate of 134.87.
