The Detroit Tigers (15-10) unexpectedly got a second day off in a row because of Mother Nature.
The Tigers’ series opener against the Baltimore Orioles on April 25 at Comerica Park was postponed because of thunderstorms in the metro Detroit area. The Tigers and Orioles will play a doubleheader on April 26 with games starting at 1:10 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. before finishing off the three-game set on April 27 at 1:40 p.m.
It is the first Tigers game postponed because of weather in 2025.
“We were just talking about not having enough off days and now here we are with too many off days,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said. “But, Mother Nature doesn’t care about pitching schedules.”
The Tigers are coming off an off day on Thursday, which was the team’s first in two weeks, dating back to April 10. The Tigers are closing out a 10-game homestand against Baltimore after beating the Kansas City Royals 3-1 and the San Diego Padres 2-1 in the first two series.

The Tigers will start Casey Mize, April 25’s scheduled starting pitcher, in the first game on April 26 and will decide on who will start the second game at a later point, Hinch said. Rookie Jackson Jobe, the original scheduled starter on April 26, will not pitch in the doubleheader, leaving an option open to potentially use a 27th roster spot afforded to teams for doubleheaders on someone like Keider Montero, who was sent down to Triple-A after two spot starts for Detroit last week.
“Casey Mize will pitch game one, it will be TBD (to be determined) for game two,” Hinch said. “Obviously we’ve got to sort out the pitching. We don’t have an off day within the (next) five days and so when you have a doubleheader, it catches up to you. It will not be Jackson and Tarik will pitch on (April 27).”
Skubal will continue to pitch on his scheduled date after preparing throughout the week for a April 27 start. Hinch expressed no concern for Jobe, who last pitched on April 18.
“The de-load is not a problem as long as we build the program around it, geared toward his next start, which we will,” Hinch said. “This is probably coming at a good time for him.”
