If you get a text message about E-ZPass, it might be a good idea to ignore it. Because scams involving the toll service continue to pop up.
The scam involves people getting a text message that tells them they owe money on their account.
One message received today in New Jersey says “You have an outstanding toll. Your toll account balance is outstanding. If you fail to pay by March 13, 2025. you will face penalties or legal action.”
It then offers a link telling you to click for further details. You don’t want to click on the link.
It also says “Please settle your toll immediately after reading this message to avoid penalties for delaying the payment. Thank you for your cooperation.”
I you get a text message from a number saying it’s E-ZPass, do not click on the link. Often, the links will install malware on your computer. And certainly don’t send money.
If you have E-ZPass, the best thing to do is to contact them on their website, or to log in to your account.
