Emmy winning star of hit TV show ending her very private marriage

LOS ANGELES — “Abbott Elementary” creator Quinta Brunson on Wednesday filed for divorce to end her very private three-year marriage to Kevin Jay Anik.

Brunson, who stars in the hit ABC series she created, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. Paperwork filed with the court states the pair have an agreement they signed after getting married on how their assets should be divided in a divorce, The Associated Press said.

The couple listed their date of separation as “TBD” and cited “irreconcilable differences,” People magazine said.

The couple have no children together, so the divorce should be relatively straightforward and private, AP said.

Anik and Brunson dated several years before marrying in October 2021.

Brunson had kept quiet about her relationship with Anik, never publicly confirming their marriage until she referred to him as her husband in her 2022 Emmys speech, People said.

“In case I am not back up here again, I have to thank my mom, dad, brothers and sisters, my cousins … my wonderful husband because he’s the most supportive man I’ve ever known and my incredible cast and show for helping me to make this show and make the pilot,” she said in accepting honors for outstanding writing for a comedy series at the annual ceremony.

She thanked him again in 2023 when she won a Golden Globe for best musical or comedy actress award.

“I didn’t prepare anything because I just didn’t think … Oh god. I love my mom, my dad, my sisters, my brothers, my entire family so much. I love my husband. I’m so happy. I love my cast. Oh, I love ‘Abbott Elementary.’ Thank you so much,” she said.

Few details are known about Anik. People magazine noted that Brunson rarely posted about him on social media and seldom publicly confirmed their marriage before her Emmys speech.

Anik doesn’t appear to be on social media.
