The Auburn Tigers will continue their quest to add an SEC Tournament Championship to their list of accomplishments for the 2025 season. On Saturday they will play the Tennessee Volunteers in a rematch of one of the best games of the season. In that matchup in late January the Tigers needed a Miles Kelly three to pick up a 53-51 win.
This should be another highly physical game between these two teams. According to the ESPN Matchup Predictor, Auburn has a 63.7% chance of coming away with a victory on Saturday. The Volunteers currently have a 36.3% chance of winning.
After Auburn’s tough win over Ole Miss 62-57, they should be prepared for another low-scoring game with Tennessee. Johni Broome led the way with 23 points and scored a clutch basket to secure a win for the Tigers.
“He puts us on his shoulders. He’s one of the best competitors. He hates to lose,” Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl said after Auburn’s quarterfinal win over Ole Miss.
Denver Jones added 13 points, the only other Tiger with double figures in scoring. Defensively, they held the Rebels to 38% and won the rebounding battle 38-28.
The Volunteers defeated Texas 83-72 behind 23 points for Chaz Lanier. That will be the assignment for Jones who is one of the best defensive players in college basketball. Auburn will need to limit his chances from the three-point line. Running opponents off from the three-point line has been a strength for Auburn this season. Winning the battle inside with rebounds and points in the paint will be key as well. The game will be broadcast by ESPN with a tipoff time of noon CT.
