Experts react to Patriots 2025 NFL Draft Day 3 Picks

See what the experts had to say about the Patriots day 3 draft picks from the 2025 NFL Draft.

Round 4, Pick 106: Craig Woodson, S – California

Michael Dussault, Patriots.com: While the team has depth, Woodson’s addition brings unique potential to play as a free safety, complementing the other players who might be best suited playing closer to the line of scrimmage. His experience in multiple defensive roles aligns well with the Patriots’ preference for adaptable players who can contribute in various packages. Given his special teams background, Woodson could also make immediate contributions in that phase of the game.

Evan Lazar, Patriots.com: The #Patriots draft Cal safety Craig Woodson with the 106th overall pick. Woodson has the ability to play the nickel and free safety. Like him to compete as a third safety to free-up Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers.

Brian Hines, Pats Pulpit: #Patriots fourth-round pick Craig Woodson was signaled out by @MoveTheSticks as one of his favorite late-round players on @PardonMyTake:

“One of those guys where I don’t kind of know what I’m missing. Like he’s got enough size. He takes the ball away. He ran the mid 4.4s. I talked to the guys at Cal like super smart great leader… Cal’s been a sneaky good secondary factory over the years.

“He’s one, I think to me, I have him like in the early mid third-round and maybe he goes in like the fifth-round when it’s all said and done, but I think you’ll look up and he’ll be starting next year.”

Taylor Kyles, CLNS: Craig Woodson could be considered a reach, but you take your guys on day 3, and he fits a need at safety/nickel while fitting the #Patriots mold for dependability with three seasons as a starter

@dpbrugler also reports in The Beast that NFL scouts say Woodson’s an A-plus person

Round 4, Pick 137: Joshua Farmer, DT – Florida State

Michael Dussault, Patriots.com: Farmer, a 6’3″, 305-pound lineman, brings a versatile skill set that should fit well into the Patriots new defensive front. He’s powerful enough to play inside on passing downs but has the athleticism to shift outside against the run. Farmer’s motor and ability to penetrate gaps align well with New England’s emphasis on disruption along the defensive line.

Evan Lazar, Patriots.com: The #Patriots select Florida State DL Joshua Farmer after trading up to the No. 137. Farmer has great length (35-inch arms), good snap quickness, and pop into blocks.

A developmental defensive lineman for Terrell Williams and Mike Vrabel.

Taylor Kyles, CLNS: Joshua Farmer is a disruptive IDL and one of my favorites in this draft

Also a team captain whose alpha attitude began to show last season, per @dpbrugler

Doug Kyed, The Boston Herald: Patriots DT Joshua Farmer fills a major need. Great length (35-inch arms) and good athleticism.

Mark Daniels, MassLive: Patriots DT Joshua Farmer fills a major need. Great length (35-inch arms) and good athleticism.

Round 5, Pick 146: Bradyn Swinson, EDGE – LSU

Michael Dussault, Patriots.com: Swinson is a long, rangy edge rusher (6’4″, 245 pounds) with a quick first step and solid bend around the corner. He has experience playing both as a stand-up outside linebacker and with his hand in the dirt, showing the kind of versatility that should help boost his chances of earning a role on defense.

Mark Daniels, MassLive: Patriots have really built some nice depth this offseason. After signing Harold Landry and K’Lavon Chaisson, they draft Bradyn Swinson in the fifth round.

Swinson was a projected third-round pick and was very productive for LSU last season

Mike Giardi, Boston Sports Journal: He’s got some serious rush ability

Brian Hines, Pats Pulpit: Edge Bradyn Swinson. Was my top edge rusher remaining entering the day.

Taylor Kyles, CLNS: Fits the mold as an OLB in the #Patriots 3-3 scheme

Should immediatey factor in as a rotational rusher and could push K’Lavon Chaisson for snaps/a spot

Alex Barth, 98.5 The Sports Hub: Bradyn Swinson was projected by some to be a top-100 pick. Smart, technically advanced rusher at 6-foot-4, 255 pounds. Coming off of a productive season with 13 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks in 13 games.
