McLaren’s Lando Norris has won a chaotic season-opening Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park, Melbourne.
Norris started on pole and led through three safety car periods in the wet and windy conditions, holding off defending champion Max Verstappen over the final laps.
Isack Hadjar, Jack Doohan, Carlos Sainz, Fernando Alonso, Gabriel Bortoleto and Liam Lawson all suffered retirements at the hands of the rain — three of them inside the first two laps.
Result: 1 NOR, 2 VER, 3 RUS, 4 ALB, 5 ANT
