Family Dollar has been dealing with some hard times, but they are making moves to help boost their model going forward.
In 2015, Dollar Tree bought Family Dollar for $9 billion. “The Dollar Tree leadership team and Board of Directors determined that a sale of Family Dollar to Brigade and Macellum best unlocks value for Dollar Tree shareholders and positions Family Dollar for future success,” the company said in a statement at the time.
But, in 2025, Dollar Tree sold off Family Dollar for $1 billion after dealing with operational issues, competition from big discount retailers and increasing costs. So, as leases for various Family Dollar stores expire, Family Dollar will be closing roughly 1,000 store locations.
But, it’s not all bad news. Family Dollar has announced that moving forward, it will team up with Uber Eats to offer delivery from around 5,000 store locations across the United States.
“By partnering with Uber Eats, it’s now even easier to access essentials from the comfort of home,” Family Dollar CMO Bonita Price said in a statement regarding the partnership. “Expanded access at an incredible value goes a long way in helping our customers save time and do more, especially in underserved communities.”
Also, in honor of the launch, Uber Eats is offering 40% off of orders $30 or more from Family Dollar with promo code FAMILY40 for a limited time.
Using Uber Eats, customers will be able to order a variety of products from Family Dollar, and Family Dollar hopes this will make its products easier to access for customers that need low-cost goods in a convenient way. To try ordering from Family Dollar using Uber Eats, simply open the Uber Eats app by tapping the “retail” or “convenience” section, searching for Family Dollar and adding items to your cart. Then, select a delivery time, check out and track it.
