Flight delays pile up at Newark Airport amid equipment failure

NEWARK (1010 WINS) – An equipment issue was delaying hundreds of flights at Newark Liberty International Airport on Monday, with no clear timeline for a resolution.

A ground stop was issued at the airport around 2 p.m. due to a Federal Aviation Administration equipment outage, officials said.

As of 4 p.m., there were 227 delays and 18 cancelations at the airport, according to FlightAware. Average departure delays were over 2 hours and increasing.

“Due to FAA equipment outage, arrivals and departures are currently delayed at EWR. Please contact your airline for flight status,” airport officials posted on X.

“While teams are working to resolve the issue, there is no estimated completion time yet,” officials said, urging fliers to contact their airlines for their flight status.
