Florida Dealt Concerning News During Sweet 16 Against Maryland

The Florida Gators are going to be without forward Alex Condon for the remainder of their game against the Maryland Terrapins.

Condon exited Thursday’s Sweet 16 game against the Maryland Terrapins during the first half with an ankle injury. He limped off the floor and was later seen working out on the bike on the sidelines.

According to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, Condon was questionable to return.

This is Florida’s first Sweet 16 appearance under head coach Todd Golden. The Gators last went to the Sweet 16 during the 2016-2017 season.

Florida reached the Elite 8 that season.

This is not the first time Condon has injured his ankle this season, suffering a high ankle sprain in February.

Florida has had its fair share of scary injuries in the last two seasons. Center Micah Handlogten broke his leg in the final of the SEC Tournament last season.

Condon is in his second season with the Gators. He was a former three-star prospect in the 2023 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings.

As a freshman, Condon played in 36 games and averaged 7.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. This season, he has averaged 11.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, all of which are career highs.

Condon scored a season-high 27 points against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the regular season on March 5. The Gators won that game 99-94.

Florida faced Alabama again in the SEC Tournament semifinal and knocked the Crimson Tide out in a 104-82 win.

Condon had four points before leaving the game due to injury.

If Florida advances to the Elite 8, it will play the winner of the game between the Texas Tech Red Raiders and Arkansas Razorbacks
