If you’re looking to book a summer getaway on United Airlines and flying out of JFK or Newark Liberty International, you will have to arrive for your flight sooner than before.

Here’s everything New Jersey flyers need to know about United Airlines’ policy change.

Which check-in policy did United Airlines change?

According to published reports, United Airlines will soon require travelers without checked luggage to check in at least 45 minutes before their flight.

The new policy will begin on Tuesday, June 3.

Before this policy change, flyers without checked luggage had to check in 30 minutes before their flights, so this change will add 15 minutes to the time you spend inside the airport, along with any logistical changes you need to make in to compensate for the extra time requirement.

Starting June 3, travelers both with and without checked luggage will need to check in at the airport 45 minutes before their flight, according to United Airlines’ time policy.

International flyers will need to check in an hour before their flight takes off.

Additionally, international flyers need to be aware of the additional check-in time requirements for traveling to several specific European destinations, including Germany and Ireland.

There are three ways you can check in for your United Airlines flight: in person at the airport, through the United mobile app or online through the United Airlines flight check-in portal.

For the smoothest travel possible, United Airlines suggests you check in 24 hours before your flight.
