Former Sixers ROY winner Michael Carter-Williams to make boxing debut

Michael Carter-Williams was the No. 11 pick of the 2013 draft by the Philadelphia 76ers out of Syracuse. The 6-foot-6 guard then went on to win Rookie of the Year averaging 16.7 points, 6.3 assists, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.9 steals as he appeared to be the guy to lead the Sixers into the next era.

However, the Sixers traded Carter-Williams to the Milwaukee Bucks at the deadline in his second season, and he then went on to be a journeyman. He played for the Chicago Bulls, the Charlotte Hornets, the Houston Rockets, and finished with the Orlando Magic.

Now, MCW will try his hand at a different sport. Per Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, he will make his amateur boxing debut on May 29 in New York.

Carter-Williams had himself a solid career. Despite bouncing around as much as he did after winning ROY, he was still in rotations and was able to make an impact at every stop he made. One should wish him luck in the next phase of his life.
