Frankfort residents, business owners navigate major flooding

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WKYT) – As portions of Frankfort remain underwater from flooding, one word has been used to describe the scene.

Historic.

On Wilkinson Street, neighbors are helping neighbors retrieve what they can as flood water continues to creep into people’s homes.

“We actually had our house flood a while ago so we understand what’s happening here,” Frankfort resident Eli Marshall said. “The issue with flooding and getting everything out, trying to figure out what to save and what not to save,”

Eli and his brother Jackson have been wading through flood water to help folks.

Their grandparents own a home on the street that was remodeled for their grandparents to move into, but the boys’ dad, Taylor, said mother nature may have other plans.

“Give us all the love and light and prayers you can because we need them,” Taylor Marshall said. “Hopefully we’ll recover quickly,”

Over on Reilly Road, The Basement Doctor and other businesses are finding several feet of water inside.

Its a feeling Basement Doctor owner Bobby Miles said he’s unfamiliar with.

“Normally we’re out saving people from water in their basement and crawl spaces. I never thought in a million years I’d be the one needing saving,” Miles said.

While Miles said they lost a lot inside their building, they’re still making house calls.

“We will be okay. We’re here for a purpose. We’re gonna help the people of Kentucky. We just gotta work together, stay together, help each other out the best we possibly can and remember the water will recede and we will be a better community when this is all over with,” Miles added.
