The Detroit Tigers will take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in Chavez Ravine late Saturday night for the second game of the nascent 2025 Major League Baseball campaign.

The Motor City Kitties failed to prevail in their season opener on Thursday, falling a run short in a 5-4 defeat that saw a surprisingly positive performance by Spencer Torkleson. The much-maligned erstwhile first base prospect started strong with four walks and a home run as the designated hitter in the fourth slot.

Unfortunately, Tarik Skubal did not look strong in the opening defense of his Cy Young award, but the next man up is fully capable of evening things out. Detroit’s starter was cast away from the team late last season, but the siren song of the Tigers drew him back this summer.

Flaherty returns to the Tigers after being shipped off at the trade deadline last season, giving Detroit something of a bonus from that late July swap. He was granted free agency after the World Series and came back to the D for a tidy $25,000,000 paycheck with an option for next season.

Yamamoto’s first appearance against the Chicago Cubs overseas in Japan was a solid one, throwing five frames of one-run ball on three hits and a walk while striking out four to earn the win. Detroit’s offense needs to get to him early, lest they face the wrath of the Dodgers’ bullpen.
