The outcome was settled but when Brice Williams was fouled with just one tick on the clock Monday, let’s just say it was important for some. Depends on what line you were looking at if you catch my drift.
Forgive me. This College Basketball Crown is in Las Vegas, you know.
The foul was useful for more proper reasons too. It helped push Williams to 30 points, as he nailed both free throws in Nebraska’s 86-78 win over Arizona State. It allows an opportunity for Williams and Juwan Gary to play some more ball as Huskers on Wednesday night against Georgetown. It’s the first meeting between the two programs.
And getting to that 30-burger gives Williams four performances with 30 points or higher this season. He’s just the second Husker in the Big Ten era to do that, tying James Palmer Jr. in 2018-19.
It was also the second-highest scoring performance by a Husker in a postseason game. Tom Baack had 33 against Marshall in the 1967 NIT.
Adding to it, and a number to keep track on, Williams moved into fourth place on Nebraska’s single-season scoring list with 650 points, moving ahead of Eric Piatkowski (646, in 1993-94).
Keep playing through the week and anything could happen there. Williams is 28 points behind Tyronn Lue (1997-98), 54 behind Dave Hoppen (1984-85) and 58 behind Palmer (2018-19).
First things first, trying to beat Hoyas. Let’s set it up.
