George Clooney looks weird with his new darker hair and he knows it

Here are some shots from a couple of days ago of George Clooney in New York where he is currently performing in previews for Good Night, and Good Luck on Broadway. Opening night is April 3. George and his producing partner Grant Heslov co-wrote the play based on their own film from 2005. In the film George played Fred Friendly; on stage he’s Edward R Murrow. And for the role, he’s dyed his hair dark.

It’s been a long, LONG time since we’ve seen George without salt and pepper. He had no grey when he worked on ER and I know this because for some reason YouTube a few weeks ago decided to queue up a scene from the ER-Friends crossover episode when Monica and Rachel dated the doctors. Remember that? You don’t have to be old to know this because Friends was such a hit on Netflix.

Still, despite the fact that a lot of Gen Z kids have seen that episode, pretty sure most of us, if not all of us, have an image of George Clooney in mind that does not involve brown hair. So this is definitely unfamiliar. And, frankly, unwelcome, LOL. He looks weird – and he knows it because he told the New York Times last month, before he coloured the hair, that “nothing makes you look older than when an older guy dyes his hair”. I mean, it’s true in his case but with all the advancement in hair colour, how is it that they can’t get it right with men? I just don’t buy that it’s impossible. But I might buy that they don’t have the patience to go back enough times to get it right. Because sometimes, with certain shades, it’s a process that can take a few weeks and a few visits with a few toners.

I don’t think this matters to George for his performance and it probably works in his favour for the character that the hair is quite obviously a (bad) dye job but he’s on Broadway for a limited run, until early June. (Which, by the way, means Good Night, and Good Luck is eligible for Tony Awards consideration. If George wins a Tony he’ll be a Grammy away from EGOT.) Does he let the brown grow out or does he go back into the chair to restore the salt and pepper?

What else happened today…

Haven’t watched the latest episode of The White Lotus – no spoilers please – but from the beginning of the season, like everyone else, I’ve been worried about Belinda. Natasha Rothwell is having a time this season and she’s clearly having a time promoting it if this outfit is any indication. No notes. The polka dots are perfect on her and the sneakers are the right choice. (Go Fug Yourself)

Jenna Ortega will not forgive the MCU. And I believe her. (Pajiba)

I don’t know when it started but Jacek and his best friend, every few weeks or so, are always sending this weird bowling video back and forth at each other. And even though he’s seen it hundreds of times by now, I’ll look over and Jacek will be losing it on the couch next to me. I was today year’s old when I learned that Jacek and his homeboy are not unique. That thousands if not millions of people around the world know this moment …to the point where The Ringer did an oral history on it! (The Ringer)

Will Smith is releasing a new album in a couple of weeks and going on tour. (Celebitchy)

Mara Wilson on her “cool friend Michelle” Trachtenberg. (Vulture)
