MEMPHIS, Tenn. – For the first time since 2008, University of Memphis men’s basketball lands a player on the Associated Press All-America team as PJ Haggerty was named Second Team All-American by the outlet Tuesday morning.

He is the first Tiger to earn AP All-America status since Chris Douglas-Roberts’ first-team selection in 2008. Kendric Davis was tabbed AP honorable mention in 2023.

Just days removed from being honored as the Player of the Year in The American, Haggerty went out and tied the AAC Championship scoring record with 42 points against Wichita State last Friday en route to being named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

He is third in the country averaging 21.8 points per game, and his 741 total points lead all Division I players. The sophomore also ranks second nationally in both free throws made (221) and free throws attempted (270).

The Crosby, Texas native is the only player in the country averaging at least 21.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. If you also throw in 6.5 made free throws per game, he becomes the first player in D-I to have that stat line since Ja Morant in 2018-19.

Haggerty enters the NCAA Tournament with 23 games of 20-plus points, which is third-most in America.

Haggerty and the No. 5 seed Tigers head to Seattle, Washington where they will take on No. 12 seed Colorado State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday. Tip is set for 1 p.m. CT on TBS.
