Here is how the Shemar James trade aftermath shook out

The Dallas Cowboys made a trade with the Arizona Cardinals during the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft and did so almost immediately after taking Texas Longhorns running back Jaydon Blue in the round in question.

As fans were celebrating the Cowboys jumped up to pick 152 (Blue went at 149 for context) and took Florida linebacker Shemar James. Defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus was surely quite happy, especially given his history of working with linebackers specifically.

To get to that spot the Cowboys gave up their remaining fifth-round pick which was number 174 overall. Obviously they had to offer something else and ultimately landed on a sixth-round pick that sat at 211 overall.

We now know the results of how all of that shook out and the Cardinals spent the first of the two selections on Ohio State cornerback Denzel Burke. Interestingly another draft pick that Dallas surrendered (the one they traded to the Buffalo Bills for Kaiir Elam) was also used on a Buckeyes corner in Jordan Hancock.

With their new fifth-round pick, 174 overall, the #AZCardinals take Ohio State CB Denzel Burke.

Burke attended both Brophy Prep and Saguaro HS here in the Valley.

As noted the Cowboys had to send pick 211 to Arizona in order to move up. That ultimately became Texas guard Hayden Conner.

At pick 211, the #AZCardinals select OL Hayden Conner (Texas) who spent three years as a left guard for the Longhorns
