Asked to bat first by the Delhi Capitals, SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma came out swinging at the bowlers from the outset.
Travis Head faced 26 of the 36 balls against DC in the powerplay, smashing 84 while Abhishek Sharma amassed 40 off just 10 balls, going at an incredible strike rate of 400.
The first over of the powerplay was the least expensive and that went for 19 runs. The third and sixth overs were the most expensive with 22 runs each being scored.
By the end of the powerplay, Head had struck 11 fours and six sixes. Abhishek Sharma at the other end hit two fours and five sixes.
Abhishek Sharma’s fireworks ended two balls after the powerplay as he fell after making 46 off 12 balls. Head would fall in the ninth over having played a blitzkrieg knock of 89 from just 32 deliveries.
SRH’s devastating opening partnership guided the team to a huge total of 266/7 and set up a 67-run win.
Interestingly, SRH feature thrice in the top five for the highest powerplay score in the IPL. Out of the four times that teams have breached the 100-run barrier inside the powerplay in the IPL, SRH account for two.
They are also second on the list for the highest powerplay score in the IPL. Chasing a target of 166 to win against Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were at it again.
This time they scored 107 in the first six overs with Travis Head scoring 58 and Abhishek Sharma making 46 inside the powerplay.
Head would go on to score an unbeaten 89 off 30 balls while Sharma scored 28-ball 75 not out as SRH comfortably chased down the target with 10 wickets and 62 balls to spare.
Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings are the other two teams that have breached the 100-run barrier inside the powerplay.
