Houston shocks Duke in final minutes to move on to national championship

Yahoo Sports’ Jason Fitz and former Big 12 Player of the Year Marcus Morris Sr. react to the Cougars’ 14-point comeback in the second half to eliminate the Blue Devils and advance to Monday’s title game.

Houston Cougars fans will always remember the Alamo Dome because we just witnessed the 5th largest comeback in Final Four history.

Houston down by 6 with a minute 14 left, could not be stopped.

They take down Duke in a shocking ending, man, wow, wow, wow, wow.

Listen, the grit, the toughness, the poise from a team that’s down 6, arguably the best team in the country.

Houston Houston pulled it out.

I mean this all also comes back to Cooper flag, right?

We spent a lot of this game watching Cooper absolutely dominate and then I thought we were gonna get our one shining moment, right?

He has the opportunity to make the mid-range shot that would have won the game, couldn’t get it done.

This was a little bit of a moment for him, man, but when you talk about Houston, the best defensive team in the country all year.

Did they wanna be on defense at the end?

I it was kind of like a, a, a thing that they wanted, you know, when some guys want to be on offense, this team wants to be on defense.

Cooper Flag is a great player, but.

Man, at the end they got to stop doing it all year.

Well, as we were sitting there watching the game, you said this is exactly what Houston wants.

And let’s be honest, Houston started this game shooting the ball abysmally.

Like it was terrible offense in the first half, but then it was terrible offense for Duke in the second half, and it’s going to be part of how we remember this season for Duke, as great as Cooper flag has been.

They’ve been in close games this year and they have lost.

Game.

So this was a problem for them.

They didn’t rear its ugly head because they were playing in a soft ACC.

They didn’t get challenged that much when they did get challenged here, they couldn’t rise to that moment.

Man, the start of this game.

I thought it might have got out of control.

Duke was playing so well, but Houston couldn’t make a shot second half.

It showed the veteranship, the maturity, and then Cryer came out and he carried his team offensively, making some big shots down the stretch, and man.

I’m still in awe.

There’s something to believe too because there was a process in the second half where you could see Houston was getting belief that they could get those buckets in the first half it wasn’t there.

In the second half, once it was Marcus, it felt like that’s what really separated them, man, it did, and we talked about the offensive rebounds.

I think Houston had 20+ offensive rebounds in this game.

That is a recipe for winning a 10. right and it didn’t show on the scoreboard, but at the end it did and that was crazy that they was able to get some crucial offensive rebounds and get some crucial shots.

What they’ve been doing all season and now they’re on to the championship.

Yeah, well, Duke, we have a problem and in the meantime, Houston headed to the championship game in the Alamo Dome in San Antonio.

It is going to be a wild home court advantage we cannot wait to see.
