Alexander Volkanovski has a shot at regaining the featherweight belt tonight in UFC 314. The former champion won the UFC featherweight title in 2019 and defended it five times over nearly as many years before losing it to Topuria in February 2024. Topuria vacated the title to move to lightweight, leaving the featherweight belt available for The Great to take back.
- Stream: ESPN+
- Date, Start Time: Saturday, April 12 at 10 p.m. ET
Across the octagon from Volkanovski will be Diego Lopes, a 30-year-old fighter out of Brazil. Lopez, now 26-6, made his UFC debut in 2023 with a loss to Movsar Evloev. He’s since bounced back with victories in all five of his following fights. This is his first shot at a UFC title.
Tonight’s event also features a huge co-main between lightweight stars Michael Chandler and Paddy Pimblett.

Oddsmakers are expecting a fairly close fight between Volkanovski and Lopes tonight. The former champion is still the favorite with a moneyline of -144. Volkanovski has suffered back-to-back knockout defeats over the last couple of years, first falling in a 2023 lightweight championship rematch against Islam Makhachev. Last year, Volk lost his long-held featherweight title via a second-round KO from Topuria.
While Volkanovski’s return is an exciting one, tonight’s co-main between Pimblett (22-3) and Chandler (23-9) has arguably more star power. Pimblett’s personality has shot him to UFC fame, but he’ll face his toughest competition yet in the seasoned “Iron” Chandler.
